Sustainability

Environmentally-conscious design and sustainability in architecture are not new concepts, but “green” materials are increasingly being specified by U.S. clients because of society’s growing awareness and support of ecological stewardship.   Minimizing the environmental impact of new buildings can be accomplished by using natural materials wherever possible, including natural wood acoustic panels.

There are three recognized bodies that are important to architectural projects that wish to be certified as environmentally responsible:   Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), the Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) and ecospecifier.

FSC – FOREST STEWARDSHIP COUNCIL

FSC LogoThe FSC is a non-governmental, no-profit organization that promotes the responsible management of the world's forsts. The certification prcoess is carried out by independent organizations called certification bodies that assess forest management and chain of custody operations against FSC standards.

LEED – LEADERSHIP IN ENERGY AND ENVIRONMENTAL DESIGN

LEEDThe LEED® (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) Green Building Rating System is the nationally accepted benchmark for the design, construction, and operation of high performance green buildings. The LEED® Green Building Rating System awards “green” credits when Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) certified wood is used. The Rating System promotes a whole-building approach to sustainability by recognizing and measuring performance in 5 key areas including material selection. More information on LEED >>

ECOSPECIFIER

ecospecifierecospecifier is an Australian online subscription-based database service of eco and health preferable products and materials utilized by building and design professionals.  Its’ assessment method provides the basis for what products and materials get listed on ecospecifier.  Murano Acoustics panels have a certified listing with ecospecifier.  The certified product is made of recycled wheat straw and bound with an MDI resin that is free of formaldehyde and acetaldehyde and other harmful volatile organic compounds.  Please contact your local dealer for more information on this product.
